Nightmare vs. Dream Trip

Let’s face it: we get a little bit of “aha!” in our lives whenever we find a great travel deal online.  But, just how good is that deal?

Many people make the mistake of looking at the price of the vacation.  I had a client tell me once that he found a deal online for a Mexico resort.  It included the resort (which was all-inclusive), airfare, travel insurance, and airport transfers.  The price was really good, I admitted, but upon a closer look I noticed something.

His flights were truly horrible.  He would have wasted the first and last days of his vacation flying to his destination, including a 4 hour layover in Mexico City (needless, when there were direct flights available).  Also, his flight home would have required him to be at the airport at 8 AM, with another needlessly long flight ahead of him.

To top it off, his wife was a big beach person, and he wanted to snorkel.  The beach at the hotel was decent, but it was a public beach rather than a private one, and tended to be very crowded.  The water was a bit rough, too rough to snorkel, so my client wouldn’t have been able to snorkel without traveling elsewhere, something he wasn’t too big on doing.

There were other issues, but I think you get my drift – if a travel package, or a cruise, is a really low price, there’s usually a trade off.  Understand what that trade off is so that you are prepared for it and can accept it.

As a professional travel consultant, it is my job to ensure that the vacation you take is the right vacation for you.  I find out what your expectations are for your vacation, and make sure what you ultimately decide on will meet, or even exceed, those expectations.  That way, you can concentrate on having fun and relaxing while on your vacation, without worrying where you’ll be able to find that good snorkel spot.
