Good News for Solo Cruisers

Ever since the dawn of cruising vacations, those who preferred to sail solo cruisers have been a victim of what is called the “single supplement.” Cruise staterooms are priced based on two people occupying the space; so, if only one person occupies the stateroom, the cruise line charges the single supplement to maintain the pricing. This essentially means the solo traveler pays roughly the same amount for their stateroom as two people would have. Fair? Probably not. For a long time, this has been a huge thorn in the side of solo travelers. Yet, one of the cruise industry’s best trendsetters has focused on this unfairness and done something rather radical.

Norwegian Cruise Lines is launching the new Norwegian Epic later this summer, and the ship will feature a fresh new concept never before seen: studio staterooms designed and priced specifically for single travelers. The studio staterooms are completely different from anything out there: not only are they made for solos, they come with access to the Studios Lounge – a special place JUST for solo travelers to hang out and meet other solo travelers!  The staterooms themselves are innovative – while they are all interior staterooms, they also have a window that looks out onto the corridor.
